Rep. John Conyers has been introducing a Reparations Bill in the House for decades

[Reparations Moving Forward]

There is a lot of hatred against African Americans in the United States even though as a group, we have done little or nothing to earn it. Most of us were brought here against our will. This has been an odd way to act toward people you forced to be part of your population. An example of this hatred is easy to see in the irrational reaction of many toward the twice legally elected President of the United States, Barack Obama.

In my humble opinion, from a distance, he has been an almost perfect person, having a beautiful family, being extremely competent at his job and never striking back at his many tormentors, many of whom have conducted themselves at the level of sub-humans in their vitriolic comments about him, often to his face. He has taken this abuse in much the same way that Jackie Robinson, the first African American to make it in the then all white professional baseball league took it.

No American president has ever faced so much hostility and outright disrespect. The haters may be a minority, but there are still a lot of them, and as we have seen, they have power and they have little morality meaning they will sink to any level, no matter how low to achieve their objectives.

The damage done to Africans after their civilizations collapsed has been the worst ever inflicted on any peoples of the world. Their greatest accomplishments, the Egyptian Civilization for one example has been ripped from them by criminal societies who have tried for centuries to convince the world that Egypt was a European creation when in fact they came into possession of it only through invasions and criminal acts.

They have tried through various religions to convince the world that the Egyptians deserved to be enslaved claiming that enslaved Europeans, the Jews, were forced to build the Great Pyramids on the Giza Plateau. This has been proven to be a lie, but there are hundreds or even thousands of lies that these people live on as justification for murdering and enslaving millions of Africans then stealing and pillaging their rich lands. Africans are not alone in suffering these fates. The same has been done to others, including the American Indians. In the case of Africans brought to the Americas, we were stripped of not only our history but our language, our customs, our religions and even our appearance in an attempt to make us unrecognizable to the world. All of this damage must be made right.

Reparation is a principle of law that has existed for centuries, referring to the obligation of a wrongdoing party to redress the damage caused to the injured party. Under international law, reparation must, as far as possible, wipe out all the consequences of the illegal acts and re-establish the situation which would, in all probability, have existed if these acts had not been committed.

The Reparations situation between The Jews and Nazi Germany was fairly simple and a “Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany” was held by the Israelis.
Around September 1951, the Chancellor of West Germany addressed his Parliament stating the need and desire of his government to agree on forms of compensation due the Jewish people. Despite some protests, an agreement was signed in September 1952 and West Germany paid Israel a total sum of $2,374,284,914 dollars (over Two billion three hundred million dollars). The payment was made to the State of Israel as heir to the victims who had no surviving family.

Obama’s Oath of Office is Meaningless: He’s Violated the Constitution Numerous Times

SOURCE: Dan Johnson in Politics

The president of the United States was inaugurated for a second term. The inauguration, costing taxpayers a cool $170 million, was mostly pomp and circumstance until President Obama took the Oath of Office.

Then, it once again turned into a liar’s den.

The Oath of the President of the United States reads as follows:

“I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

Obama, much like Clinton, Bush Sr., and G.W. Bush, has treated the Constitution as if it were a list of suggestions, rather than concrete rules for holding the office of president. Between countless drone attacks, eviscerating the Bill of Rights, and signing a law turning America into a battlefield, this President has acted as if the Constitution were only to be followed at his convenience.

Here are just a few of the ways Barack Obama has trampled the Constitution, destroyed our inalienable rights, and violated his Oath of Office:

1. Signing the annual National Defense Authorization Act…twice

Obama signs NDAA

The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) is a law passed every year by Congress, and it typically just authorizes funding for the the Armed Forces. However, the 2012 NDAA radically changed that. It authorized, at the request of the president, the indefinite military detention, without charge or trial, of any person on U.S. soil…including American citizens. President Obama signed it into law on New Year’s Eve, 2011, with a signing statement claiming he would never use that power. Then on January 4,2013, leaving the indefinite detention sections of the 2012 NDAA intact, he signed the NDAA again. This time, with no such disclaimer.

2. Assassinating American citizens

Anway Al-Awlaki

Anwar Al-Awlaki was an American citizen living in Yemen, who the president decided was aiding Al-Qaeda and should be eliminated. On September 30, 2011, a drone strike killed Al-Awlaki, and two weeks later, another drone strike killed his 16-year-old son, Abdulrahman Al-Awlaki. The president of the United States acted as judge, jury, and executioner of American citizens to whom the U.S. government denied their Constitutional right to a trial, a lawyer, or a day in court.

3. Authorizing Drone use on U.S. soil

Drone use on domestic soil

Barack Obama signed the 2012 Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization Act (FAARA), which authorized 30,000 drones to begin flying over U.S. soil by 2020. These drones can “accidentally” spy on American citizens, thus violating the Fourth amendment right to be free from “unreasonable searches and seizures.”

4. Extending the Patriot Act

President Obama swore he would repeal the dangerously named USA PATRIOT Act before his election, which allowed for the limitless, and warrantless, wiretapping of anyone considered a suspected terrorist. The wiretapping provisions of this act, which were used in 1,618 drug cases and only 15 terrorism cases, and violated the Fourth amendment entirely, were due to expire on May 27, 2011. President Obama signed an extension just in time…the American people almost got some rights back. Whew, that was close.

5. Keeping Guantanamo Bay open

Guantanamo Bay

One of the key tenets of President Obama’s first election campaign was closing the Guantanamo Bay detention facility. Once he got into office, he claimed closing the facility was “more difficult than I think a lot of people realize.” More difficult, indeed. It is now January 22, 2013, and the president has officially made it impossible for Guantanamo Bay to close under current law.

Under President Obama’s watchful eye, America was turned into a battlefield. We still have the warrantless wiretapping authorized under President Bush, along with the same Guantanamo Bay, and we will soon see surveillance drones operating in the skies above, just like Iraq and Afghanistan. How long before those surveillance drones become Predator drones. These changes violate over 14 provisions of our U.S. Constitution.

In order to faithfully execute his office, our President must preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States. So far, the only thing this President has been able to faithfully execute is our inalienable rights…one by one.

Liberal America, Wake Up!

Cutting Social Security is a very bad idea, and it’s the last thing one would expect an African-American president to consider, let alone actually propose! Yet where no other white, Democrat president has ever dared to go, is exactly where President Obama now chooses to be in his open advocacy for Social Security cuts.

Kudos to Obama for being America’s first (half) black president. However the hollow symbolism of that is no replacement for real substance, and the vanity of token triumphalism not only defies sanity, but also cuts through the veins of justice when minorities in power willfully harm people of color, the poor and others dispossessed.

Sure there are racists who criticize Obama just for the sake of it, however – as civil liberties attorney and columnist, Glenn Greenwald, often points out – there is a lot of criticism Obama rightfully deserves. It is immature and ignorant to forego that and instead hold on to some romantic, idealized version of what Obama is about, so as not to face what “Obama has wrought,” his becoming yet another minority celebrity in a growing list of African-American men and women who have betrayed the interests of minorities, a damned circle to which Harry Belafonte so rightly pointed out a decade ago Condoleeza Rice and Colin Powell belong.

Florida’s History of Failed Justice

Trayvon’s death recalls the forgotten killing of an innocent black teen nearly 70 years ago.

Trayvon Martin was shot dead in Sanford, Fla., by a man who told police a story of self-defense that’s keeping him out of jail. Martin’s killing immediately called to mind the sensational 1955 lynching of young Emmett Till purportedly for whistling at a white woman in Mississippi…

The myth of freedom in the land of the free

Before Occupy Wall Street, many protesters were middle- and upper-middle class college graduates who could safely assume the constitutional guarantee of their civil liberties. But afterward, not so much…

Spying on Occupy: Prosecutors Subpoena Tweets, NYPD Arrests Protesters for ‘Thought Crimes’

Several stories in the news this week – and it’s only Tuesday – reveal the scope of the spying and surveillance activities of the NYPD and DA’s office, who are monitoring Occupy Wall Street.

Taken individually, these stories may not seem earth-shattering. Yes, the NYPD was monitoring Occupy, but the NYPD is sort of legendary for its overzealous spy and harassment programs (just ask any Muslim New Yorker or victim of the Stop and Frisk policy). But examined together, it becomes clear that the NYPD and District Attorney’s office are devoting enormous resources to spying, harassing, and intimidating what has thus far proven itself to be an overwhelmingly peaceful protest group…
