SEATTLE — The Seattle Department of Transportation will work to make the Pan-African themed sidewalks in the Central District permanent.
A group painted the crosswalks red, green and black to celebrate neighborhood pride, but in doing so created an unsafe walking situation because the paint does not reflect light well.
Crews will be using white reflective construction tape to make the Central District crosswalks more visible, while a permanent design is developed in the coming weeks. The tape will go around the current paint job, not cover it up.
“I really love it. I think it’s a great historic marker for the neighborhood,” one woman said after finding out the design would be made permanent.
